Welcome to St. John Paul II

Welcome to St. John Paul II Catholic Church! Have you ever noticed how people are always searching, searching to fit in somewhere? We know that we belong to something, so we join groups. This starts off when we are young. Which group are we going to fit in, the smart people, the good looking, the athletic or maybe you felt like me you never felt like you belonged to anything? Truth be told that is also a group, the outcasts. Even if you are older you are probably still trying to fit in somewhere: the mother’s club, the father’s club, the republicans, the democrats. We are all searching to fit in somewhere because we know that we belong to something, something important. We feel it in our bones. We belong to God.

We experience God in two ways, in ourselves and in community. In our day and age most people will tell you they believe in God, but they fail to see the other important dimension, community. What is God, but a community of persons, the trinity. Our church is all about welcoming. Did you ever notice how Jesus was always welcoming? He always welcomed people especially the poor, the lonely, the sick, the grieving, the stranger, the rejected, the sinner. Jesus was showing us how God’s love is for all.

Jesus didn’t die on the cross to change the mind of God. Jesus died on the cross to change our mind about God. That God isn’t exclusionary or for just some people but for all. We at St. John Paul II don’t believe that Jesus came for just some people, but for all. God loves all of us right now. But in this life, I don’t want you to miss out, to miss out on the gospel joy of living the life of Christ now, to miss out how God can feed you now. If you are searching for where to fit in, if you are hungering to be fed, join us, join our mission to welcome others to live the Gospel, and to find that true joy that is missing in your life.

God bless,

Rev. Chris Holtmann, Pastor
